Nov 08, 2023

From October 23-25 in Syracuse, NY, NYATEP and the NYSEDC welcomed 400+ workforce and economic development professionals from around the state for 3 days of plenary sessions, workshops, and networking!

On October 23rd, attendees were welcomed to Syracuse by Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh, Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon, and Rob Simpson of CenterState CEO with their session "Collaborate and Win: How a Vision for Inclusive Growth Positions CNY for Success". We learned how they are working together to transform Central New York. Attendees heard about how public and private partners in CNY are collaborating to create new opportunities and significant growth, all while ensuring inclusivity and sustainability for all.

We then heard from Therese Daly, NYATEP's Deputy Director, Ryan Silva, NYSEDC's Executive Director, and Katie Hohman of Sheridan Hohman & Associates with an Income Disregard Update! Following the plenary sessions, attendees participated in workshops, and then a session hosted by Assemblymember Harry Bronson, What’s Next for Economic and Workforce Development: A Legislative Perspective.

October 24th began with Meeting the Micron Moment: Aligning Workforce Development in Central New York to Meet the Needs of the Semiconductor Industry. Attendees heard from Mike Frame of MACNY, Joe Nehme of Micron Technology, Amber Rangel of the Empire State Development Office of Strategic Workforce Development, and Dominic Robinson of CenterState CEO on how they are ensuring that local residents, especially from historically disenfranchised communities, will be able to access economic opportunities to ensure Micron’s success and optimize opportunities for as many people as possible.

Following the plenary session, attendees attended workshops and our 2023 Statewide Workforce Awards Luncheon where we honored leaders and trailblazers in Workforce Development. Later that evening, attendees were treated to a Roadtrip Nation Screening Event at the Landmark Theatre.

The last day of the conference, October 25th, began with a State of the State Agencies with Doreen Harris of NYSERDA, Roberta Reardon, the New York Commissioner of Labor, and Kisha Santiago of the New York Department of State. Attendees heard from each of these participants on how they are collaborating and communicating to maximize the value of investments through funding programs.
