"Two of our summer youth did a great job working at a local video production company. This placement was able to allow a hands-on work experience in the digital media industry. These youth were able to bring previous knowledge and learn new skills. They worked together and created an advertising video for our county’s youth program highlighting jobsites and youth opportunities in our county. It was a great way for youth who were interested in digital media to gain experience with all aspects of the business. One of the youth is entering college and will major in digital media and the other youth is interested recording. Both state they learned a lot from this placement and had a great supervisor."

"Arieanna, Age 15, Steuben County During her second year (2021) enrolled in the Summer Youth Employment (SYE) program, Arieanna was placed at Spotlight of Hornell, a local movie theater, where she was responsible for taking tickets, working the concession counter, and general cleaning. She was well prepared for her first job placement as she spent the previous summer in a SYE remote learning group studying the soft skills needed for successful employment, in addition to pre-employment and financial literacy skills training. Two years in the SYE program provided Arieanna personal and professional growth and the ability to break through barriers. As a result of her training, she has a bank account and participates in direct deposit, she set S.M.A.R.T. financial and soft skills goals, completed a resume, job application, and learned how to interview. At the conclusion of her 2021 SYE placement, she was hired directly by Spotlight of Hornell. “I caught on really quickly. My job is open to the public, so I meet and see all kinds of people. Definitely having people skills and working hard is a must.”. Arieanna 10/25/2021"

My favorite part of the program was improving my community. Thank you for helping me with my employment!” Paige, Discover Cayuga Lake “I liked every part of my job. I liked learning new things and how to do things I'd never thought I'd do. I have learned that if I get pushed a little bit I can do anything: I just need encouragement and that extra push from someone. Also, repetition is key. I'd love to participate in the SYEP program again. This has been one of the best experiences ever. Thank you so much!”"
