"The Herkimer Home State Historic Site is a historic house museum situated overlooking the Mohawk River on Route 169 in Little Falls. It was built in 1764 by General Nicholas Herkimer who died there in 1777 from wounds suffered in the Battle of Oriskany. Visitors are invited to tour the mansion and view the visitor center exhibits; and also explore the grounds to discover General Herkimer's final resting place, a recreated kitchen garden, remnants of an Erie Canal lock, and scenic views of the Mohawk River. For the last 3 summers, through our Summer Youth Employment Program, Lucas Miller has been placed at this site as a groundskeeper making sure that the site looks good for the tourists who come to visit. His supervisor, Paula, shared this picture of him hard at work. She says he is “a true gem” and she is so happy that he has been placed with them. Because of his great work ethic, his ability to work well with the rest of the staff and the pride he takes in his tasks, when a part time opening came up after Lucas had completed his SYEP hours, he was the logical choice to be hired on for the remainder of the season!"

"Veterans field ribbon cutting was the unveiling of the newly renovated basketball courts. In attendance for the event were Amsterdam City officials, state government, contributors, along with local residents showing support. In addition to the project staff for the fundraising and construction efforts were two of the most essential members both employed through the summer youth employment program, facilitated by FMS Workforce career center were Keiler MacNeal and Zephania Clay. MacNeal and Clay are both passionate about doing community service to better their neighborhood. Leaders of the future." -John Sumpter Director of Outreach at Creative Connections Clubhouse
