"Shannon McCool, 15, is one of our SYEP success stories for summer 2021, which was Shannon’s second year working with the program. This summer, Shannon worked at Cortland Free Library, performing a variety of tasks, but working specifically with the youth librarian on summer programming. In addition to activities you’d expect, like shelving books and helping supervise children visiting the library, Shannon enjoyed some unexpected activities like holding a six foot long boa constrictor! At the end of the summer, Shannon moved to a new school district. The skills she learned in the Cortland County summer program helped her get a job at a pizza shop in her new town, where she works five days a week. "

Cayuga County Employment and Training

"Kady Wood was a second year participant in the summer youth program. This was her first year working as a clerical aide in the President 's office at Cayuga Community College. Kady not only had perfect attendance this summer she was not late one time despite having over a 30 minute commute every morning. Her supervisor told me that she did an outstanding job and was able to help them finish two major projects. They were so thankful to have Kady's help this summer and have requested that she be assigned to them again next summer if possible. Kady is a sophomore at SUNY Oswego majoring in accounting."
