Update on WIOA Reauthorization

Last week, there was a Senate hearing on WIOA Reauthorization in Washington D.C. Here are the list of individuals asked to testify:

• Taylor White, Partnership for Advance Youth Apprenticeship (run through New America, left leaning think tank)
• David Bradley, JFF (most recently with the Congressional Research Service, producing labor/workforce policy reports)
• Lisa Bly-Jones, Chicago Jobs Council
• Monty Sullivan, Louisiana Community and Technical College System
• Matthew Dickerson, Mid South Extrusion (Baton Rouge, LA)

NYATEP applauds Labor Chair Senator Bernie Sanders and Ranking Member Senator Bill Cassidy for their leadership and devotion to workforce development and the reauthorization of WIOA. Common themes across the testimonies were importance of support services, career navigation, significance of wrap around services and advancing equity and addressing barriers across the workforce sector.
