Five Days Left Before State Budget is Passed: Income Disregard Advocacy Needed

Mar 28, 2022

With only FIVE days left until the State Budget is passed negotiations are in full swing! Now more than ever we need to make sure that our voices are heard! The State Legislature must know how important it is to pass the Income Disregard Bill No. S6589A Persaud/A7534A Rosenthal, establishing a 6 month,100% income disregard for New Yorkers receiving cash assistance and participating in government funded job training and postsecondary education programs, and/or subsidized and unsubsidized employment opportunities.

To make it to the finish line we need the workforce community - program providers, employers, BOCES, higher education institutions, chambers of commerce, Workforce Development Boards and most importantly recipients of services - to contact the Governor's Office and the State Legislative Leadership via email, phone, and social media to ensure that Income Disregards are prioritized in the final Budget negotiations!

This is our last week to make it loud and clear that Income Disregards will support low income New Yorkers specifically Communities of Color gain access to family sustaining employment and provide businesses a trained pipeline of skilled workers.

Here is what you can do TODAY  to support:

    • Call the Governor's Office & the Albany Office of  Legislative Leadership to urge them to include this bill in the Final Budget -  No. S6589A Persaud/A7534A Rosenthal

      • Here is the contact information for the Legislative Leadership
