NYATEP Visits Fulton Montgomery County!
Jun 03, 2024
NYATEP took a trip to Fulton Montgomery Counties last week for a few tours with our amazing members. Thank you Fulton County Center for Regional Growth, the FMS Workforce Development Board and the Fulton Montgomery Chamber of Commerce for welcoming the NYATEP staff and showing off some of the employers and programs in your neck of the woods.
The first stop was SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College where staff was given a quick tour of the campus, followed by an overview of their Electrical Technology program and their brand new Cyber Security state of the art classroom. All of which was extremely impressive and exciting for future students!
We were then chauffeured over to Brown's Ford, a dealership and auto repair shop, where we met a graduate of FMS BOCES PTECH program who is now a full time certified automotive tech, employed at Brown's Ford. He told his story about his journey to becoming an automotive technician and we were all impressed by his passion and excitement for the work at just 20 years old!
After Brown's Ford, we made our way over to Electro Metrics, a company specializing in broadband radiofrequency, and microwave products, as well as machining and fabricating services. We were given a tour from Danny Wheeler, the President of the company, who let us know how they were shifting the company culture from year's past with internal trainings and events!
After lunch, we made our way to Northville Central School, where we were welcomed to check out the many amazing things this school has to offer. The first stop being the Hydroponics Room, where students learn about and grow vegetables that are then used in the cafeteria to feed their classmates. We were shown the Manufacturing Classroom by two students who were working on their own amazing class projects, some projects for the Northville Placid Trail, and some even for other businesses and buildings in their town, including the library and the police department.
Once our visit was complete at Northville Central School, we packed up and headed to FMS Workforce headquarters and met the team led by Gina Papa. We were excited to see the career center in full swing, with customers and staff extremely engaged and happy to show us around!
Thank you to our friends and colleagues in Fulton-Montgomery for an incredible day of networking, meeting new friends, and learning!
