First Day of the 2024 Legislative Session

HAPPY First Day of the 2024 Legislative Session – Live from Albany, NY!
By Therese Daly, Interim Executive Director

The 2024 New York State Legislative Session is officially in session and the NYATEP team hit the ground running yesterday to elevate the needs of the workforce sector. First, we kicked off the day finalizing this year’s policy priorities and laying the groundwork for a successful NYATEP Workforce Advocacy Day on the hill this March 6th — don’t miss your chance to get your voice heard — register HERE!

As part of opening day tradition, we attended a reception hosted by Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (my old boss and NYATEP Award Recipient!) and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie. These events are an excellent opportunity to deepen relationships and connect with influential individuals who are key in supporting workforce development issues. You can count on NYATEP to make sure that YOU are represented.

Overall, workforce development continues to be a priority but there are many priorities. Some of the other focuses that we are hearing about is the budget (and an impending $4.3 billion deficit in fiscal year 2024), housing, criminal justice, cannabis, healthcare, energy and climate just to name just a few.

Of course, this is only day 1 and as always, NYATEP will keep you updated throughout this legislative session. If you have questions or would like to learn more about how to get involved, please don't hesitate to contact me!
