Workforce Academy for Policy & Advocacy: Albany State Advocacy Recap
Dec 16, 2025
This week, our Workforce Academy for Policy & Advocacy Fellows brought incredible energy, curiosity, and commitment to Albany for their State Advocacy learning experience. Over two action-packed days, Fellows took a deep dive into how the New York State legislature works and put their new skills into practice.
NYATEP’s lobbyist, Katie Hohman, led Fellows to explore the structure and function of the State Legislature, learned how bills move, and gained insider insight into how advocacy shapes policy decisions.
The highlight of the week? Fellows conducted member education meetings with representatives’ offices from across New York State.
They stepped confidently into their roles as advocates, sharing local workforce priorities and building meaningful relationships with policymakers and staff. Their professionalism and passion were on full display.
This cohort showed up ready to learn and ready to lead, and their enthusiasm made the entire experience both productive and inspiring. We’re incredibly proud of the work they’ve already accomplished.
Stay tuned, next up are Federal Legislative Visits in January! Our Fellows are just getting started, and we can’t wait to see them take their advocacy to the national stage.
