Busloads of youth came to Albany earlier today (2-1-10) to “Speak Out” about the importance of summer jobs and the proposed $35 million budget cut. Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Assemblywoman Susan John, and Senator Pedro Espada, Jr., provided remarks which included their strong support of the summer TANF program.

• ”To cut every penny out of SYEP is unacceptable. It’s wrong to downplay importance of a program that we fought for every year.”

• “I want to assure you that you have powerful good friends in the Assembly.”

• “I promise you that we are standing with you. And standing with you in the fight for Summer Youth jobs.”
