RE:        Walmart Foundation Green Jobs Training Grants Initiative

I am pleased to announce the second round of our Walmart Foundation Green Jobs Training Grants Initiative – the Green Jobs Training Pilot Awards. The Initiative is a partnership between The U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) and the Walmart Foundation to promote the development of Green Jobs training in cities. Click here to access the Request for Proposal (RFP) for your information and use.

During the first year, the Conference honored six cities with “Best Practice” awards for their existing Green Jobs training programs that were expanded, further developed and/or enhanced, and ultimately act as a model for cities of similar size to use as guidance in their prospective Green Jobs endeavors.

This year, USCM will honor three cities with grants for innovative proposals for pilot Green Jobs training programs that embody mayoral leadership. The awards are as follows: $500,000 for one large city (with a population greater than 1 million), $400,000 for one medium-size city (with populations between 200,000 and 1 million), and $300,000 for one small city (with a population less than 200,000). These awards recognize new Green Jobs training programs focused on transitioning workers from blue- to green-collar jobs, and will be presented at the 78th Annual Conference of Mayors in June, 2010, in Oklahoma City.

Proposals are due on February 10, 2010 and consist of a cover sheet, statement from the mayor, executive summary, and budget proposal. Finalists will be notified on March 10 and will be asked to submit up to ten pages in response to the proposal content questions, and supporting documentation. The grants will be awarded to non-profit [501(c)(3)] organizations in partnership with a member mayor of The United States Conference of Mayors. All non-profit organizations in cities with mayors who are members of The U.S. Conference of Mayors are eligible to apply.
